To my Brother Knights :
The Columbian Squires is the official youth organization of the Knights of Columbus,
serving boys ages 10-18. Each Squires Circle has a minimum of two adult counselors.
Activities encourage boys to have fun among
peers, promote volunteerism, and events that help the community and those less fortunate. Spiritual activities help boys grow
in their Catholic faith and develop Christian character.
At their meeting on September 24th , Spaulding Council #427 approved a motion to sponsor a Columbian
Squires Circle for the Peoria area. I have been designated as chief counselor to implement this endeavor.
After
five weeks I would like to report the following:
We have had 1 open house and 2 recruiting meetings.
As a result of those activities there are:
12 candidates that are ready
to be invested as Squires
5 candidates that are very strong prospects
Father David Richardson, pastor of St. Philomena’s
in Peoria,
has agreed to be the chaplain of the new circle. In addition to Father Richardson, five brother knights
have volunteered to be counselors.
Since the recently nominated
for sainthood, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen lived in, attended school at and was ordained in Peoria, the future squires have
elected to name it the Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Circle in his honor.
An investiture ceremony is scheduled for
November 15, 2009 at 1 pm, at the K of C facility on Radnor Road. We have a squire circle ceremonial team coming from Springfield to conduct the investiture.
State officers will also be in attendance. Our goal is to have 24 candidates to be invested at that time.
I
am asking my brother knights to support this endeavor by attending the investiture ceremony on November 15. Your
presence will demonstrate to these soon to be squires and potential future knights of your council, that the adult members
of the 3rd and 4th degree welcome them as members of our fraternal order.
Looking
forward to seeing you on November 15th at 1 pm.
Vivat Jesus
